Health benefits of this dish
Ground beef is a delicious way to consume vitamin B12, a nutrient that we need each day for important body functions like red blood cell formation and proper nerve function (1) (2). A little more than 3 ½ ounces of ground beef provides about 18 grams of complete protein, which the body uses to grow and repair body tissue like muscle, blood vessels, and bone (3). Tomatoes are a good source of dietary vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K1, for improved immune health, blood pressure, brain function, and blood clotting (4). Plant compounds, such as lycopene and beta-carotene, in tomatoes help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, reducing the risk of diseases, like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (5). Further, tomato compounds, such as lycopene, protect the skin from sunburn and premature skin aging (6).
